HEALTH & SAFETY

Our approach to health and safety is based on the idea of personal commitment and individual empowerment. We believe everyone has a right to return home safely every day and a duty to take care of themselves and those around them.

Health & Safety

Our industry is getting safer. But many people still believe that injuries – or even fatalities - are an unavoidable part of what we do. CERM-EX does not accept this view. That’s why we launched ‘Mission Zero’.

Mission Zero is our campaign to eliminate all accidents from our operations. We know it’s a tough target. Achieving it won’t be easy. But, to us, there’s no more worthwhile goal than keeping all our people safe and well.

CULTURAL CHANGE THROUGH COMMUNICATION

We believe communication is critical to creating the conditions for Mission Zero. It’s important that everyone understands our approach to health and safety - and feels empowered to play their part. For this reason, we have introduced ‘one-to-one safety commitment interviews’ for all new starters, including subcontractors. One of the key aims of this exercise is to encourage a culture of care and mutual respect by strengthening relationships between management and the workforce.

RAISING AWARENESS

We all have a part to play in keeping our workplaces safe. One of the most effective ways we can do this is by being aware of the risks around us and taking action to address these. That’s why we actively encourage all our people to regularly assess their working environments and report any identified risks - as they arise.

ENHANCING WELL-BEING

A key priority of our Mission Zero agenda is the prevention of work-related illness. While there is clear evidence that employment can have a positive effect on personal well-being, poor health in the workplace can present significant safety risks.

We offer a range of services to help enhance the health of our employees. These include annual and new-start medicals for all employees (with private healthcare benefits for staff) – as well as targeted education campaigns aimed at tackling lifestyle-related issues such as diabetes and high blood pressure. In addition, we recently developed a one-day IOSH-accredited course ‘building a healthier workforce’. This will be rolled out to all individuals involved in the planning and supervision of works – including members of our supply chain.

CERM-EX is also pleased to support IOSH’s ‘No Time to Lose’ campaign – which seeks to raise awareness of the dangers of occupational cancers.
